New Techniques in Goat and Sheep Ranching Create Glut of Speckled and Spotted Animals

A relatively new company in the sheep and goat business is being accused of genetically engineering its animals. The company, Jacob’s Sheep & Goats, was a subsidiary of Laban’s Livestock, but was purchased by Jacob Isaacson.

The owner of Laban’s Livestock, Laban Bethuelson, alleges that Mr. Isaacson was aggressive in the acquisition.  Mr. Bethuelson is threatening to sue over patent issues, saying Mr. Isaacson tricked him into relinquishing ownership of the now popular goats.

At the heart of the disagreement are the breeding practices of Mr. Isaacson.  Mr. Bethuelson claims to have evidence of controversial genetic engineering techniques being used to produce unusually large and strong animals.  For some reason, the stronger animals are always speckled or spotted.  

The consumer advocacy group If-We-Didn’t-Do-It-That-Way-Last-Century (IWDDITWLC) has published research findings indicating health dangers from the milk or meat of such animals.  They say their studies prove that, if eaten, these food products result in speckled and spotted people.  No one has been able to reproduce the test outcomes.

The Goat and Sheep Ranchers Union says other ranchers are unfairly losing business.  They are pressuring the Magnanimous Central Government to put limits on how many Genetically Modified  Sheep or Goats (GMS’s or GMG’s) can be sold in a given season.  They are also pushing for branding requirements, so that every shopper will clearly know if he is buying a speckled or spotted GMG or GMS.  

A press release by Jacob’s Sheep & Goats states that all these political maneuvers are just a way for those with less desirable products to stifle competition.  Mr. Isaacson says he has been very open about his procedures; anyone with tree branches and a knife can do what he is doing.
