Summary: Saul’s son, Jonathan, makes a military move to free the Israelites from Philistine subjugation. The Philistines respond with great military might that motivates the people of Israel to hide in places like caves, tombs, and thickets. Saul is supposed to wait for Samuel in Gilgal, but gets impatient because it looks like the people are abandoning him as king.
