Summary: Those who oppress the poor and and deprive the needy of justice are warned of their own destruction and futility of the wealth they have gained through unrighteous decrees. The Assyrian will come and bring their desolation, to “tread them down like mire in the streets.” However, because of his own arrogance in doing so (should an ax brag against him who chops with it?), the Assyrian will also be subject to destruction and a remnant of Israel will return.
