Summary: While the rest of the inhabitants beyond the Jordan gather together to fight Israel, the inhabitants of Gibeon and the surrounding cities (who are apparently a portion of the Hivites) pretend to come from a far country to make a covenant with Israel. Joshua and the princes of Israel are taken in by the ruse, but 3 days later find out the deception. When asked to explain, the men of Gibeon say they had heard how Yahweh had commanded Moses to destroy all the inhabitants of the land. Read from the World English Bible.
