Summary: The Midianites are overrunning Israel like a horde of locusts so that the people of Israel are hiding in caves. Yahweh sends a prophet to explain things to them when Israel cries out. Then Yahweh’s angel appears to Gideon, commissioning him to save Israel. Gideon asks for lots of signs and Yahweh tells Gideon to throw down his father’s altar of Baal. Right up to the night of the battle, Yahweh provides special encouragement to Gideon. Trumpets and broken pitchers are involved in the battle. Two kings with curious names are killed.
